Book Review: AGGTM- A Must-Read Thriller That Lives Up to the Hype!

A Good Girl's Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson

Quote:

"She couldn't look at him. Couldn't look at his kind-without-trying face, or at the perfect smile he shared with his brother, or his eyes so brown and deep you could fall right into them. So she didn't look."

Blurb:  Five years ago, schoolgirl Andie Bell was murdered by Sal Singh. The police know he did it.
Everyone in town knows he did it.

But having grown up in the same small town that was consumed by the murder, Pippa Fitz-Amobi isn't so sure. When she chooses the case as the topic for her final-year project, she starts to uncover secrets that someone in town desperately wants to stay hidden. And if the real killer is still out there, how far will they go to keep Pip from the truth?

Book Tropes:

  • Cold Case
  • Murder Mystery
  • High-School Setting
  • Friendship & Loyalty
  • Small-town secrets

My Personal Views:  When I picked up this book, I had high hopes because of all the praise I'd heard from the book community. Still, I was a bit skeptical, thinking it might not live up to the hype. You know how it is when everyone raves about a book—your expectations soar, and it's often hard for the book to meet them. But I'm happy to say, this book did not disappoint.

Sal Singh, a character that was not even alive in the book, but yet made his way in to our hearts and made us joy in victory when the case finally got solved.

The mystery surrounding the murders, the connections between the characters, and the chemistry and banter between Pippa Fitz-Amobi and Ravi Singh were all fantastic—a perfect ten out of ten.

Also, Ravi Singh deserves all the love in this world.

The only aspect that seemed a bit unrealistic was how a seventeen-year-old teenager could solve a case that even seasoned detectives and police couldn’t crack. But, since we understand that this is a fictional book and all of this is a work of fiction, I would say to all the haters who say this- SHUT UP.

I’m not sure if the next two books in the series will live up to the greatness of the first one, but I’m incredibly excited to continue reading. I don’t have the next two books yet, but I’ll be getting them soon.

We have the TV series coming of this book in August as well, which is SICK!  I can’t wait to watch it.

Holly Jackson, you are a queen.
