Book Review: Everything, Everything

Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon

Quote: "I don't hate it. I respect it. Respect. It's Mother Nature at her finest - awesome, beautiful, impersonal, murderous. Think about it: All that water and you could still die of thirst. And the whole point of waves is to suck your feet from under you so that you drown faster. The ocean will swallow you whole and burp you out and not notice you were even there."

Blurb: Maddy is allergic to the world. She hasn't left her house in seventeen years.

Olly is the boy next door. He's determined to find a way to reach her.

Everything, Everything is about the crazy risks we take for love.

My Personal Views: If you're a fan of "The Fault in Our Stars" by John Green, then Nicola Yoon's Everything, Everything might just be your cup of tea.

Maddy and Olly's love story is undeniably adorable. The way Maddy and Olly fall in love is refreshing at most, to be honest. I am a hardcore slow-burn fan, and reading Maddy and Olly fall in love, even though it was fast, however, it was exhilarating. The chemistry between them was cute and was exactly like what you would imagine, a teenage love to be. Both characters are well-crafted, adding depth to the narrative.

While the initial setup of the plot was promising, the story takes a drastic turn with a significant plot twist. Unfortunately, this twist felt forced and unrealistic. Without giving any spoilers, I would just say that whatever that major plot twist was, it is just not humanely possible. I understand that the book is a work of fiction, however whatever was written, it was just very difficult to digest. I think, it could have been much more well written if the author would have given the story a better thought.

Despite this setback, Yoon's writing shines throughout the book. I don't know why, Nicola Yoon's writing just reminded me of John Green's writing while reading the whole book. The characters, particularly Olly, exude charm and humor, adding a layer of enjoyment to the reading experience.
